A few simple tips for electrical safety

Always use a RCD short for (RESIDUAL CURRENT DEVICE) when working outside-if you were to cut through the cable of a lawnmower or a trimmer for instance, the RCD would immediately cut off the power supply before is reaches your body and has the chance to give you an electric shock.

Always make sure all your electrical pipes are bonded, this reduces the risk of a fatal electrical shock especially in a dangerous place like the bathroom, this is a silver "bonding" clamp which is attached to all pipes by linking them using a yellow and green earth wire to join all the pipes.

Never overload an extension socket-always read the maximum wattage or output of the extension socket; If you can plug in items up to 1,000 watts for instance-do not attempt to overload it with 1,200 and so on the maximum is there for a reason-overload it and you risk melting the sockets, destroying the appliances plugged into it and also the possibility of a fire risk.

Never attempt any electrical work that is beyond your capabilities-The building regulations of England and Wales: Part P refers to what you can do without informing building control so read this information of get a copy from here: http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_ADP_2006.pdf

If you notice any smell of burning wires or black marks around the sockets then switch off the main fuse box and call an electrician.

Honest Electrician in Preston. That’s Me!

After a long, long, long day I am now relaxing with rather large vodka and coke while my meal is slowly but surly being cremated in the oven. I love the smell of charcoal and the blue haze that obscures the fact that I need to dust.

Anyway, once again I was working in Accrington, where the must have traffic wardens lying in wait for a poor unsuspecting electrician of off load the van in the morning, then before you have a chance to move the van WHALLOP! A ticket has been under the wiper, and the warden is merrily skipping down the road. Traffic Wardens…don’t you just love em? Wouldn’t mind so much but I was only empting the van at 9.30, I must have been away for about 2 minutes.

On the way home I got a call from elderly customer that I worked for recently, asking me to pop round and pick up the cheque, I was only to delighted because I knew I would get a piece of scrumptious home mad cake…..mmmmhhhh……salivating just thinking about the perfectly made moist carrot cake. (Sorry I digress) Anyway I nipped round and while we were chatting I was handed the cheque and told “that right” I said that’s great, but while they were giving me the cheque I was being offered another piece of heaven on a plate. So you could say I was distracted, but while I was driving home I realised that value of the cheque wrong, but in a good way. They had over paid me by £350.00, after realising it wasn’t an early Christmas present and unlikely to be a tip it dawned on me that it must be an error. When I arrived home I checked the estimate then called this lovely couple, they were delighted at my honesty, I told them I would drop the cheque off on Monday when I am passing. For my honesty I am being baked a carrot cake and to a chocolate cake too boot.

Do you need a good, honest electrician I Preston? If so give me call.
